I think it will survive, but it’ll be past its prime. Stewart and Colbert will be remembered as icons of ’00s liberal anger, no doubt about it. They’ll still have material, but if things go well for the Obama administration the real visceral energy powering their fan bases will dissipate.
I’m sort of frustrated by this notion. It’s this liberal imagination that because every part of the government is blue, everything will magically be better. Guess what? Just because the republicans suck, absolute power corrupts absolutely. The first six months might be magic, but then the lobbyists come to town.
I’d prefer a dem pres like obama paired with a repub congress so there’s checks and balances. Either that or a repub pres that’s actually smart with a dem congress.
